Hello everyone!  Welcome to my Catwalk for Kidneys page!  I have had kidney disease secondary to Lupus since I was 12 years old. That's 29 years! I never thought I'd be this old, when I was first diagnosed. I've struggled through dialysis and all of the many side effects that come along with it, as well as all of the medications I've taken over the course of time.  I participate in this event to raise awareness and to help people understand and care about kidney disease.  My hope is that another child or family would not have to go through all that my family and I have battled.  I was very fortunate to receive a transplant, from a woman I didn't know prior to the transplant, who is now a part of our family.  After eight years with this incredible gift, I went back to dialysis and for the last eight years, have been doing home hemodialysis.  I want to inspire other patients to gain a little more freedom in their lives by considering this option!  I have many other passions including the coming of the world together for peace and harmony and protecting Mother Earth.

Chronic kidney disease is a major health problem!  More than 26 million Americans are affected and one out of every three of us are at risk for developing it!  Diabetes and high blood pressure are the two leading causes.  In addition, more than 10,000 New Yorkers are waiting for a life saving transplant.  By supporting this event you are helping local programs and services including grants that assist with medical, nutrition and housing needs; Kidney Club support group programs that provide patients and family members with the tools they need to live positively with kidney disease; clinical, community and patient education programs; school based programs that teach our kids about lifelong kidney health; free community screenings that can identify kidney disease in its earliest stages - when it's most treatable; and healthcare advocacy that has protected access to medications; helped pass valuable legislation that will help improve organ registration in our great state; and so much more!

There are a number of ways you can support!  Please consider making a donation at the link above.  If you are a business and would like to sponsor and gain some valuable recognition for your support, you can find sponsorship information here!  You can also purchase tickets and become part of the cheering section for the event.  (Be sure and reference me in the memo section so that your purchases count toward my fundraising goal!)  However you support Catwalk for  Kidneys, know that your support makes a difference and helps those right here in our community fight kidney disease!

See you on October 28!!!!
